Scientists Find Cells Causes Malaria

HONG KONG - Scientists discover a kind of immune cell that can memperparah condition malaria disease patients. The immune cell is the body's immune system kill the other, making it easier for parasites berkembangbiak uncontrollable.

Patients who experience symptoms of severe malaria have more number of immune cell called a T cell (Treg), such that from Reuters, Friday (24/4/2009).

"The body's immune system will replace the normal parasites, if the body's immune system can not menahannya, parasites will be more and more. The more the number of this cell, the more the parasites in the body," said Magdelena Plebanski, immunology Professor of Monash University, australia.

Plebanski and his team examine as many as 33 patients in the lowland Papua, Indonesia. This area has a number of known causes malaria parasite called Plasmodium Falciparum.

Of the overall number of these patients, 16 patients among the positive and malaria-infected cells have a known number of Treg in many.

The researchers also estimate, as many as 500 million people living in areas exposed to high-risk malaria. The impact of this disease is indeed chilling, each year there were as many as one to three million people killed by malaria.
